Abstract

Saudi Arabia has made enormous contributions to its healthcare system. Most noteworthy is the recent effort to implement cutting-edge information and communication technology in the nation’s healthcare sectors. Although the implementation of electronic health medical records has been fraught with enormous challenges, a remarkable number of healthcare units have been successful. In this phenomenological study, we aim to explore the current state of Saudi Arabian electronic healthcare record system, and determine what practitioners define are the elements that hinder the widespread implementation of electronic health record system in the nation. At the current time, the authors have conducted broad literature review particularly those that address the challenges to the implementation of electronic health record system in Saudi Arabia. This effort has enhanced the direction of this study, particularly the research questions guiding the study. Furthermore, the authors will make use of the opportunity of presentation to increase awareness about the state of electronic health record system in Saudi Arabia. Hence, the authors expect that the audience will be able to contribute through their questions that can be of enormous benefit to the scope of this study.
