Abstract
The premise of the project is to become familiar with and use System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to manage all campus computers throughout their lifecycle and become proficient in tasks associated with computer management. This process will include creating a working computer image that can be used for all computer models and deploying this image to all campus machines that need it. This standard image will then be used for all computer models but will also allow for modifications as new drivers/software/updates become available. A large portion of this project will deal with using SCCM to create a working computer image ( or snapshot) of a computer that can be used as a baseline for other computers to use. This image will include an operating system, software, antivirus program, hardware drivers, and other common settings needed by all users. This image will be deployed to all machines as needed whether they be new or older machines that need to be restored to a standard starting point. The next phase of the project is delivering the machines to the customers and making sure the users are sufficiently taken care of. Because the replacement cycle happens roughly every three years, it is important to ensure the experience and transition to the new computer is a seamless process, creating as little down-time and frustration as possible. Included in this transition is imaging their new computer, backing up and restoring their files, and adding software and printers as needed. SCCM will also provide the ability to continue support of campus devices throughout their usable life. This will be done through remote computer management. With this remote control feature, the Information Technology support team will be able to assist users with day-to-day issues quickly and efficiently. These tools will prove invaluable in promoting and maintaining a strong relationship with the IT team and university patrons. Customers will be given the opportunity to offer feedback and advice on the computer exchange process and how it can be improved moving forward.
