Abstract
This project involves the creation of web based database driven application to store details of custom reports for a large healthcare organization. For over 10 years, developers have been creating custom reports for customers without easily accessible adequate documentation. This has created a situation where rework is being done, development times are increased, and we are not as prepared for change as we would like to be. The custom reports tracking database system has been developed using PHP, HTML and the relational database management system Microsoft SQL Server. The first part of the part discusses the background in more depth followed by a brief literature review. System design is then covered with discussions of a system overview, project activities, and several design components. These include the use of the MVC pattern of structure, security and authorization and the technology being used. The results are presented along with a discussion of several lessons learned and core issues. The application has been developed and implemented but with a limited number of users. This is due to the fact the healthcare organization is in the process of replacing many applications with a single system, Epic. This has in tum caused a dramatic shift in skills across the IS department, including myself. Because of this, I am in the process of searching for someone to transition the maintenance over to. Overall the project has been successful in terms of meeting the deliverable requirements and I have learned more about developing a web based application. This includes database modeling, PHP programming and looking at problems and situations from a different perspective.
