Abstract

Outsourcing was the golden word during the last part of the twentieth century when the computer revolution starting taking a foothold in the business world. Many businesses did not have the resources needed to keep up with their competition; so they hired others to do the work. Some of these relationships flourished while others floundered. RMP Capital Corp (aka RMPI) was one of those companies who outsourced their information technology services to another firm. Over the years as both businesses grew; support waned and small problems become much larger until management had enough; a new technology plan was necessary in order to meet the growing demands of the business. The new strategy was designed; planning and implementation started; only to be met with other projects standing in its way; the scope of the project grew in many different directions. At last, when everything started to fall in place, the company experienced a man-made disaster like no other; it's very soul hanging by a thread in order to survive to the next day; each week brought new challenges to be overcome. Major goals were rewritten; items were put on hold, and budgets were cut. The reductions affected everyone, including the new technology plan; however the main goal of in-sourcing the information technology remained; set only on a slower pace. Although many sacrifices needed to be made throughout the company; RMP Capital Corp survived and was a leaner company because of the changes.
