Abstract
NJoy Co. migrated from a transactional normalized database platform on SQL server to a DB2 Data Mart. Corporate Information Technology made a decision that all data warehouses and data marts were to be on the DB2 platform. NJoy Co. was strictly a SQL shop and when searching for DB2 experience in the Midwest NJoy Co was not successful. However, with Corporate Information Technology being experienced in the Data Warehouse arena and supporting a DB2 platform, NJoy Co. was lucky to have the opportunity to leverage the Enterprise Data Warehouse team to support NJoy Co.'s Data Mart. The migration to the data mart will be a huge responsibility and it will take time and resources before all reports are pulling from the data mart. The data mart is a deferrable system since reports are considered non-mission critical. This results in a lower level platform with no redundancy and the possibility of the data mart to be down between sixty and ninety days. To ensure any mission-critical reports are available upon downtime, NJoy Co. will still send all critical data element extracts to their current reporting server. This server will be used as an ODS (Operational Data Store) in the future. The goal of the data mart is to deliver an integrated data environment that stores information needed to provide timely and accurate analytics and reports.
