Abstract

The American iteration of the circus is a unique phenomenon that informs the modern imagination despite the slow decline of the form of entertainment. The recent PBS documentary The Circus from American Experience catalogs and explores the American circus, and serves as a focal point for American culture's recent resurgence of interest in the subject brought on my the demise of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey and Michael Gracey’s 2017 film The Greatest Showman
