Abstract

This project is a database design on downloaded permissions for the folders of the file servers of Avera McKennan's domain (which is a medium to large windows domain). It consists of a series of downloads from the System Software tools (dump ACL in particular) which are downloaded as a series of text files. These downloads can be automated or done by hand. The downloads are loaded into SQL Server database. All users, all groups and their members and all file permissions for the site server folders are downloaded and imported into SQL Server. They are cleaned up, transformed and correlated by the import into a useable form. There are a series of queries written as stored procedures that identify user names, account logon from last name or part of, find folders and paths on the site server if the requester only remembers part of the path, finds and reports on users that have permissions on a folder and can list them and their permissions to give to managers so access to sensitive information can be controlled. This database also reports on the groups needed to give permissions of various kinds to the site server's folders so that users can be put into them to give them permissions to various files. The downloads also give information on the users' information so that users that have not logged in for 6 months or longer or those with disabled accounts can be deleted with their home folders and mailboxes. The deliverables will be the database, stored procedures, a front end tie in and the manual to use the application. There were no tools of this nature at the hospital when I started there and a constant need for these kinds of reports so I put this application together. It has grown through the years and now other analysts use it for the same reasons I do.
