Abstract

Project management is a function in all business organizations and very active in the academic setting. Management of project management can be a challenge. The market has been responsive in the development of tools to assist with project management. There are many products to choose from to integrate into your organization and keep your projects and project team members on track. Often, the question is not getting a system but rather which system to embrace. The focus for this project is identifying a project management tool for the small group of eight participants or less. For the ultimate small group project management tool, nine requirements were identified. An evaluation of twenty-one existing project management software packages was completed. They were evaluated against the nine critical requirements with one additional criterion. System cost was added to the overall evaluation process. Upon review of existing systems, it was determined that the right package is not available out of the box for the small group. A project organization and communication application will be developed to meet that need.
